Specialist Jonathan D. "Jon" Menke 38th MP Company Indiana Army National Guard

Killed in action Iraq 4 August 2008

Spc. Jonathan D. Menke, 22, of Madison, Indiana, died August 4, 2008, in Baghdad, Iraq of wounds suffered when debris from an IED Improvised explosive device detonated on an overpass and fell onto his vehicle. Spc. Menke was assigned to the 38th Military Police Company, Indiana Army National Guard, Danville, Indiana.

Jonathon spent the early part of his life in Columbus, Indiana and started school in the community. His name has been added to the Bartholomew County Memorial for Veterans and is the first soldier of the 21st Century to be inscribed on the memorial.

Sergeant Jeremy R. McQueary 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, United States Marine Corps

Killed in action 18 February 2010 while supporting combat operations in Helmand province Afghanistan

Sergeant Jeremy R. McQueary. 27,a Columbus, Indiana native was killed by an improvised explosive device while outside of his vehicle. Sergeant McQueary was a 2002 graduate of Columbus East High School and joined the Marines in 2002. He served more than a year in Okinawa, Japan, two tours in Iraq and was on his first tour in Afghanistan. He is survived by his wife Rae and son Hadley, 5-months old at the time of Sergeant McQueary's death.

Sergeant McQueary's name will be inscribed on the Bartholomew County Memorial for Veterans. A portion of his last letter home will also be inscribed on the Memorial.
